IA 7th Cav Co ?. Born “Ellen Hansen Aavetsrud” on 28 Sep 1846 in Sigdal, Buskerud, Norway, son of Hans Ellensen Aavetsrud and Barbro Ellingsdatter Stenseth. Came to America with his parents on “Thracian”, which sailed from Gothenburg, Sweden, and arrived in New York on 31 Jul 1848. His father, who took the name “Hans Juve”, died in the gold rush, August 1859. His mother moved to Decorah, Iowa, 1860. Civil War: Post war: Became an undertaker and music store owner in Red Wing, Minnesota. Married 13 Jan 1872 to Louisa Nobel. Sources: (Naeseth ’48-960)

Enrolled for one year on 7 Oct 1864 at La Crosse, La Crosse County, Wisconsin, as a substitute for Hartwell Allen of Harmony, Vernon County, Wisconsin. Mustered the same day. Private. Came to America from Nordland, Norway. Civil War: Age 21. Enrolled 21 Aug 1862. Mustered 27 Oct 1862. Private. In Indian wars from 1862-1865. Discharged from the service with his regiment, 24 Aug 1865. Post war: Came to Brandon, Minnesota, about 1884. He was married on 4 Apr 1887 to Wilhelmina Peterson. Six children. Moved into Alexandria, Minnesota, in 1892. Died at his home near Lake Victoria. Buried 29 Nov 1912. Post war: Married to Anne on 24 Jul 1866. Four children. Moved to Chippewa County, Minnesota. Died on 14 Aug 1904 while visiting one of his children in Rugby, Pierce County, North Dakota. Death due to kidney disease. He was 74. Buried in the Lutheran Churchyard at Tunsberg, Chippewa County.
