WI 21st Inf Co G. Residence: Waupaca, Waupaca County, Wisconsin. Born “Gudmund Amundsen Kjøs” on 28 Dec 1842 at Vang, Oppland, Norway, son of Amund Olsen Kjøs and Berith Gudmundsdatter. He came to America with his parents and four siblings on “Concordia”, which sailed from Bergen on 12 May 1849 and arrived in New York on 10 Jul 1849. They came to Muskego Township, Waukesha County, Wisconsin, and in 1852 moved up to Scandinavia Township, Waupaca County. Civil War: Blacksmith. Unmarried. Age 19. Brown eyes, brown hair, light complexion, 5’7”. Enlisted for three years on 12 Aug 1862 at Waupaca. Mustered 5 Sep 1862 at Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Private. In hospital sick from 1 Oct 1862 to 8 Jan 1863. Took part in action at Chaplin Hills, Kentucky; Hoover’s Gap; Dug Gap; Chickamauga; the campaign to Atlanta; the campaign to Savannah, Georgia; the campaign to Goldsboro, North Carolina; and was in the battle of Bentonville, North Carolina. Suffered a slight breast wound on 7 Aug 1864 near Atlanta. Mustered out 8 Jun 1865. Post war: Became a blacksmith in Amherst, Wisconsin. He was married on 14 Nov 1867 (or 7 Nov 1869) to Kirsten Andrea Hermansdatter Lilleholt (1848-1922). Seven children. Goodman died at the home of a daughter in Arlington, South Dakota, on 30 Jul 1922.
