Became unfit for service and was discharged at Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on 2 Mar 1863. Post war: Lived at Springdale, Wisconsin. Married to Isabell (Ingeborg?) Olsdatter Hagene; nine children. They lived at Modena, Buffalo County, Wisconsin. Later, lived at Alma, Trempeauleau County, Wisconsin; still later in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Died June 1932. Halvor was a brother of soldier Ole A. Paroled in 1863 at Annapolis, Maryland; moved to Benton Barracks, St. Louis, Missouri, as a prisoner on parole. Restored to duty. Left sick at Chattanooga, Tennessee, 28 Nov 1863. Later, sick at Nashville. Transferred to the Invalid Corps on 22 Apr 1864. Post war: Married 1 Jun 1865 at Perry Church to Margit Thorofsdatter, who had been born at Helleslia farm in Treungen, Telemark, in 1836, to Torav Olavsen Arak and Ase Svendsdatter. They moved to Winnebago County, Iowa, in 1866, where six children were born to them. In 1886, they were listed as living in Fertile, Iowa. Jacob died in 1898. He and Margit are buried in Grant township cemetery, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa.
