ROWE, Andrew

WI 5th Inf Co F. Residence: New Hope, Portage County, Wisconsin. Born “Anders Raa” in Lardal, Norway, 13 Sep 1844, son of Asbjörn Halversen Raa and Ragnhild Andersdatter (Roe) Raa. Came to America with his parents in 1852, leaving Bergen 16 Jul. Civil War: Farmer. Age 20. Blue eyes, Light hair. Light complexion, 5’7”. Enlisted for one year on 3 Aug 1864 at Plover, Wisconsin. Mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 12 Sep 1864. Bounty $100. Private. Took part in battle of Petersburg, Virginia, 2 Apr 1865, and in the battle of Sailors Creek on 6 Apr, where he was slightly wounded. He was among the troops at Appomattox court house during General Lee’s surrender. Discharged from the service 20 Jun 1865 at Hall’s Hill, Virginia. Post war: Assumed name “Anders Roe” after the war. He was married 27 Nov 1866 to Elsa Fredrickson. They had five children. In 1868, they moved to Jackson, Minnesota. He farmed in Enterprise Township, Jackson County, for several years; then ran a lumber yard. He was also Jackson County Sheriff and a Judge of Probate. Awarded a pension on 6 Jun 1912 of $15.50 per month, to increase to $19 per month on 13 Sep 1914 and to $22.50 per month on 13 Sep 1919. Mr. Rowe died 8 May 1913 in Jackson, Minnesota. ROWLAND, Carl Iver

US Army 10th Det Adm. Lab. Co. Born 23 Dec 1892 in Smaroland, Sweden. First World War: Age 25. Entered service on 23 Jul 1918 at Oacoma, South Dakota. Private. Died of pneumonia on 12 Oct 1918 at Camp Merrit, New Jersey. Buried in United Lutheran Cemetery at Vivian, South Dakota, lot 4, block 8, grave 5.
