Ole Hougen wrote that on 12 Jan 1863 “Elling Semmen began to lose his mind.” Semmen was discharged from the service for disability at New Bern, North Carolina, in 1864. Wounded in the battle of Jenkins’ Ferry, Arkansas, on 30 Apr 1864. Mustered out with his company on 29 Aug 1865 at Brownsville, Texas.
