Sent to a hospital at Allisonia, Tennessee, in early May 1863. Transferred on 14 May 1863 to Confederate General Hospital in Danville, Virginia, where he died, possibly of tuberculosis. Mustered out 24 Aug 1865, Clinton, Iowa. Post war: Died in Randall, Hamilton County, Iowa, 22 Jul 1876.
