WI 15th Inf Co H. Residence: Cambridge, Dane County, Wisconsin. “Elling Pedersen Ljosno” was born in Voss, Hordaland, Norway, 9 Oct 1840, a son of Peter Olsen Ljosno and Synneva Ellingsdatter Sundve. He, his parents and a sister came to America on the “Olaf Kjerre”, which sailed from Bergen and arrived in New York on 22 Jun 1846. They settled in Dane County. Civil War: Private. Age 22. Unmarried. Enlisted for three years on 23 Oct 1861 at Cambridge and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 13 Feb 1862. Private. Left sick at Mississippi River Island No. 10, 11 Jun 1862. Seriously wounded at Stone’s River, Tennessee, 31 Dec 1862 and sent to hospital and then to a convalescent center, and later sent north. Mustered out at Madison, Wisconsin, 13 Feb 1865. Post war: Became a merchant in Madison. In 1871 he married Guri Haldorsdatter Prestegaard, who had been born in Voss on 29 Sep 1840. He died 22 Sep 1922 and was buried in Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison.
