Enlisted for three years on 23 Oct 1861 at Cambridge and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 13 Feb 1862. Private. Left sick at Mississippi River Island No. 10, 11 Jun 1862. Seriously wounded at Stone’s River, Tennessee, 31 Dec 1862 and sent to hospital and then to a convalescent center, and later sent north. Mustered out at Madison, Wisconsin, 13 Feb 1865. Post war: Became a merchant in Madison. In 1871 he married Guri Haldorsdatter Prestegaard, who had been born in Voss on 29 Sep 1840. He died 22 Sep 1922 and was buried in Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison. Edlen P. Sime was his foster brother. Knud and his parents came to America aboard the “Olaf Kjerre”, which sailed from Bergen and arrived in New York 22 Jun 1846. They came to Christiania Township, Dane County. Civil War: Age 27. Commissioned a Captain on 11 Feb 1862 with rank from 18 Jan 1862. Began active service in Madison, Wisconsin, 13 Feb 1862. He recruited most of Company H. Led his company in the siege of Mississippi River Island No. 10. Resigned there on 3 May 1862, by special order number 15 from General Halleck. Post war: Married. He moved to Chicago, Illinois. Died at a young age following injuries. Civil War: Blacksmith. Private. Post war: He settled in Eldora, Iowa. He married Ida M. Olson, born 1852, who had come to Canada from Norway in 1858. She later came to Eldora, Iowa. In 1869, Peter and his young wife homesteaded in Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota. He was Sheriff of Lac qui Parle County for four years. In 1901, they moved into their nearby village and established a store, which they operated for three years. He died 15 Jun 1920 in Lac qui Parle.
