Frederick came to America with his parents and two siblings, traveling on the “Peder Schreuder”, which sailed from Bergen and reached New York on 30 Jun 1845. They came first to Winnebago County, Illinois, and in 1854 moved to Springfield Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa. Civil War: Age 19. Enlisted 5 Jan 1864. Mustered 5 Jan 1864. Private. Transferred to Iowa 34th & 38th Infantry Consolidated, Company K, on 1 Jan 1865. Mustered out 15 Aug 1865, Houston, Texas. Post war: Married 11 Aug 1865 to Johanna Drang. His father died when he was nine. His mother, he and a brother Christian, came to America in 1857 to La Crosse county. Civil War: Farmer. Age 18. Enlisted on 1 Jan 1862. Mustered at Camp Washburne, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Private. Mustered out with his company at Austin, Texas, 15 Nov 1865. Post war: In 1866, he moved to Gilchrist Township, Pope County, Minnesota. Married Lena Peterson. One child, Dorotha. Lived at Terrace, Minnesota.
