SUNDBLAD, John

MN 3rd Inf Co D. Born 4 Nov 1835 in Stafne, Varmland, Sweden. Came to America, arriving in Boston on 5 Jul 1861, and came to Minnesota a few weeks later. Civil War: Enlisted on 16 Oct 1861 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Taken prisoner at Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Exchanged. Discharged in 1864. He was married on 4 Dec 1866 to Caroline Olson at East Prairieville, Rice County. In 1868 they came to Alexandria, Douglas County, and built the Minnesota House hotel. Marblehead at the approaches to Caimanera, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, on 26 and 27 Jul 1898. Displaying heroism, Sundquist took part in the perilous work of sweeping for and disabling 27 contact mines.
